Naftali Group commissioned Brandon Haw Architecture to design One Williamsburg Wharf to reflect its unique geographic and historic context. The firm’s design exploration led to two key inspirations: the residential architecture of Brooklyn’s early Dutch settlers, and the historic cast-iron architecture of surrounding buildings in South Williamsburg. As a result, One Williamsburg Wharf ’s bespoke glass and metal façade was crafted with richly layered and distinctive picture frame windows, deep shadow line cornices and lustrous, prismatic detailing that reflect sunlight in different ways through the day and throughout the seasons, catching the light with varying color highlights throughout the year. Studies of natural light and views informed the positioning of the buildings, ensuring that residences and amenity spaces are bathed in sunlight and showcase remarkable views of the skyline and East River.

Ward + Gray are experts in custom spaces, designing everything from tiles and furniture to lighting. The color palette that founding partners Christie Ward and Staver Gray curated for the amenity spaces at One Williamsburg Wharf is inspired by the Dutch Masters – Vermeer in particular - paying homage to the Dutch influence on Brooklyn architecture. Deep blues, ochre, and olive green introduce rich accents within very light spaces. Amenity spaces are warm and inviting with curved lines that reference the building’s waterfront location. Materials such as honed marble and solid white oak bring a natural softness. Metallic details introduce a luster that hints at the industrial history of the location. The overall impression is refined, yet playful.

SCAPE’s design for Williamsburg Wharf reimagines this urban oasis on Williamsburg’s East River waterfront, creating a myriad of opportunities to enjoy time spent outdoors with an emphasis on relaxation and forms that celebrate the dynamism of the river. The landscape encourages effortless wandering through terraces that cascade from street level to the waterfront. Native and adapted plants were chosen to shape a diverse set of outdoor rooms. Plazas showcase inspiring city and sunset views. Pedestrian and accessible pathways trace beautiful, seamless connections between the elevated private residential amenities and the riverwalk promenade. Shady gathering places, a restful water garden, a sunny stepped terrace facing the Manhattan skyline, and a dog run are woven into a seamless landscape experience.
